The Ethereum whitepaper named Identity as one of the five main use cases for Ethereum. I'll explain what succeeded and why, what failed, and what has been meh. I'll trace Public Key Cryptography in the 1970s, Bitcoin, Namecoin (you forgot about it!), Ethereum, ENS, Sign in with Ethereum, and beyond. And I'll explain what I think the path forward should be.
